Many of us are concerned about saving money for our spring and summer vacations, we have a few tips to help you do that. Maintenance and improvement for your home’s energy efficiency can also bring peace of mind going into the spring and summer months.
Repairing Window and Door Seals
Windows being sealed properly and cleaned will save energy costs and reduce allergens and dust in your home. Check the caulking and make sure no condensation or window fog is occuring. This effort will reduce your over all energy costs. Check your door seals, as this will prevent insects and rodents from getting in. It will protect your floors and home from water damage and your heat and air from escaping your home which costs you money. Most seals are made of foam, rubber or caulk, all of which dry rot and crack in the dry heat of winter, replacing them is a great way to weather proof your homes interior.
Replacing and Claining Air Ducts / Filters
Having your air ducts cleaned once a year will reduce dust and allergens in your home too. It will reduce the amount of time you spend cleaning dust bunnies around the house too. Change your air filters regularly, again this controls the amount of dust and allergens in your home, since the trees and grasses will be blooming, this is known as allergy season for good reason. Reducing the amount that hangs out in your home is a great way to stay a little healthier this spring. It also helps your air conditioner run efficiently and keeps that same dust out of your system, preventing clogs and electrical issues.
Improving the Control of Your Thermostat
Remember to save more on your air conditioning costs set your thermostat as high as is comfortable and when you will be away from your home set it a tad higher so it runs less often, but do not turn it off because you have electronics and furnishings in your home that needs to remain climate controlled so as not to be damaged. Usually 76 degrees is ideal when you will be away unless you have pets in your home.
We can also help you update your thermostat, having a digital thermostat that allows you to control not only tempatures but times of day that items run, vacation or home away settings as well as many other features will improve the comfort and energy your home relies on.
4. Air Conditioning Unit
Please remove any debris from around your unit. Make sure the unit doesn’t look clogged up with leaves, or other dirt or debris. Make sure it sounds normal, that there is no squeaking, grinding or odd sounds. Make sure the drain from the house for the condensation is clear and has a place to empty with out being compromised. Do not set anything on or against the unit.
The very best way to keep you HVAC unit in great working order is to have a preventive maintenance tune up service or inspection done twice a year so it coincides with changing froM air to heat or heat to air.
