5 Tips for Winterizing Your Home

Are you ready for winter? If not, now’s the time! The weather is getting colder by the day, and the sooner you act, the more comfortable you’ll be – and the more comfortable your next energy bill will be when you get it. At Hometown Comfort, we’re here to help. That’s why we’re bringing you this list of 5 Tips for Winterizing Your Home.

1) CHECK WINDOWS & DOORS

  • Make sure all windows and doors are tightly shut and sealed. Add additional caulk and weather stripping as needed. You may choose to replace drafty windows or doors with new, high-efficiency versions.

2) HUMIDIFY

  • Using a humidifier can really make your winter heating dollar stretch. Humid air feels warmer than dry air. That means you will feel comfortable setting the thermostat to a lower temperature in a humidified space.

3) CHECK ATTIC

  • Attics can be drafty! Be sure your insulation is up to par, and add more if possible. Also, check for any open vents or drafty windows, and close and seal as necessary.

4) FURNACE MAINTENANCE

  • Having your furnace cleaned and checked at the beginning of cold weather season is an important step to ensure your system functions efficiently and effectively throughout the frigid weather months ahead.

5) FURNACE SAFETY

  • Ensure that all clutter stored near furnace is moved to a more distant location. Items close to the furnace are a fire hazard. They also may obstruct combustion air supply, affecting system efficiency and possibly causing the creation of dangerous carbon monoxide gas.
